Nineteen of Medvedev's 21 championships have been achieved on hard courts

A comeback Medvedev secured his maiden championship for over two years with success over opponent Moutet in the competition title decider.

The Russian, a ex- number one, has had a challenging season, managing just one match at the Grand Slams and suffering a setback at the New York tournament.

The player's unpredictability on the professional circuit - and issues with his serve in specific - resulted in him exiting of the top ten and ultimately splitting with long-term mentor Gilles Cervara.

Now working with Johansson and Goetzke, Medvedev has gradually progressed in the last few weeks - climaxing in a closely contested competitive triumph over challenger Corentin Moutet.

It is Medvedev's first title following the Rome competition and initial on a hard surface since March of the previous year.

Success also means Medvedev has won 21 victories at twenty-one distinct competitions.

"This marks the first occasion I am participating in a tournament with my two daughters together, so to secure a title is really nice," stated ranked player the champion.

"This title is in tribute of my younger daughter her name, because the maiden victory I won when my older daughter my daughter was born was for her."

Medvedev, the past champion, had failed in his last six championship matches, including in that event previously this season.

His defensive strategy and regular reactions on court had led observers to wonder if his ability to perform at the highest level was concluded.

Yet the athlete has implemented adjustments in the last few weeks, making an effort to advance forward and compete assertively, reinforced by an better serving game.

He recovered from a deficit in the first set against the tricky Moutet, securing 4 of the final five points to gain the advantage.

The competitors swapped breaks in the following set before the challenger, attempting for his initial professional championship, took control to force a third set.

The opponent rescued 4 initial opportunities in a competitive final set before Medvedev secured a break to that score to close out the victory.

Fittingly, Medvedev secured victory with a rally at the net area, with Moutet unable to control a return after a lengthy match.
