An individual who laced candy with sedative and distributed them to youngsters at a youth camp in the area has confessed to sexual crimes against two young males who were nine and 10.
The defendant was taken into custody after eight children and one adult fell ill at the location in mid-summer.
The elderly man, from Ruddington in Nottinghamshire, admitted guilt to a series of 17 offences when he was present at the courthouse on the end of the week.
Yet, he disputed one of the sexual offences he was facing, which was involving a young boy.
The accused was remanded in custody prior to a additional proceeding on November 28th.
'Sweet game'
The legal representative, handling the case, described the defendant's actions to the court.
She explained his victims were under-privileged children who were staying at a summer program which he operated.
Ruben conducted a "treat game" with the youngsters, Mrs Prior stated, in which he would enter the boys' rooms when they were getting ready for bed and tell them to ingest treats "rapidly".
She told the court the man had played this game with the children "for many years", and minors had earlier experienced illness the subsequent day.
She stated the man had been able to explain this repeatedly as the minors being "overstimulated by activities", until his family member had suspicions in recently.
The prosecutor stated further: "In the summer" his stepson had concerns about what was going on, for good reason.
"They decided to examine in the man's possessions."
The legal counsel explained materials including lubricant, petroleum jelly and medical needles were found, and his family member alerted the police about his worries.
She explained the defendant went on to play the "treat game" with six children that time - Saturday 26 July - and they were everyone unwell the next day.
"The police had not responded by that point," she added.
The oversight body, the Independent Office for Police Conduct, had stated that it was reviewing law enforcement's management of the incident.
Mrs Prior explained the children were struggling to walk due to their sickness, so the family member called the police a second time.
She said the defendant then conducted the "treat game" in a room of five youngsters.
