Around fifty automobiles have been smeared with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's city of Hanau close to Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.
Cars, walls and postal boxes were marked, sometimes with Nazi symbols, they announced in a statement.
Police state they were contacted during the night on Wednesday, when a individual noticed that a car in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been marked with a red-colored liquid.
The substance had been placed in the form of a Nazi symbol, they stated.
Officers then located many other vandalized vehicles and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.
Swastikas are banned in Germany under legislation banning the visible presentation of Nazi-era symbols.
Law enforcement report early analysis show the substance was most likely blood from a person.
"There is still no indication as to its origin; authorities are currently not cognizant of any harm in association with the occurrence," they added.
Municipal representatives said they were working "to resolve the incident" and have asked to the community for tips.
A high-ranking representative commented the vandalism rendered him without words and needed to be solved quickly.
"This act hits the core of Hanau and reopens the trauma of the right-wing violent incident in 2020," he stated on social media, recalling the murder of nine victims by a gunman aiming at individuals of foreign heritage in five years prior.
